Camp Onaway

TRIPS

Onaway’s long history has always involved exciting and rewarding trips. During the first three weeks of camp, each girl is out of camp for at least one day hike and one age appropriate overnight with her cabin group.

Even our very youngest campers learn how to camp responsibly while having fun! Our trips counselors are experienced and knowledgeable, often having done the trip several times as a camper.

Onaway supports and practices a LEAVE NO TRACE policy with the girls and regularly leave campsites better off than when they arrived.

Safety on trips is a primary focus. All of our counselors are certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR and several trip counselors pursue a Wilderness First Aid and/or Responder certification. Any trip where girls will be boating or swimming also has a Red Cross certified lifeguard present. Campers receive a fun and informative trip orientation during the first week of camp where safety is a focus.

During the second half of the summer, day trips continue to be offered and each girl signs up for a one to 4 day overnight trip based on her level of experience. We offer choices in river canoeing, backpacking, base camping and staying in AMC huts.

After just one Onaway summer, your daughter will understand the basics of sleeping, hiking, camping, and cooking in the wilderness.
